Jo Sully is the Vice President and General Manager for American Express Global Business Travel (GBT), Australia and South Asia, a role she has held since July 2013.
In this position, Jo is responsible for developing the regional strategy, leading efforts to drive business growth and performance, and managing the GBT team, encompassing approximately 500 people.
Throughout her career, Jo has had an impressive track record in delivering strong sales results and client retention rates. She also has extensive business change management experience, including overseeing the transition in Australia of GBT moving from being wholly owned by American Express Company, to a joint venture with an investor group. As part of this transition, Jo was instrumental in defining an entirely new business culture and identity and ensuring a smooth transition for GBT’s Australia-based employees.
Jo began her American Express career in 2003 in corporate travel. She then progressed to hold various senior leadership roles in business-to-business areas including Global Merchant Services, Small Business Services and Global Corporate Payments. Most recently, Jo was Vice President, Global Merchant Services, B2B, APAC, where she was responsible for all sales, management and operations. Prior to joining American Express, Jo worked in the media and airline industries in sales, product development and business development roles.
Jo is passionate about gender equality in leadership positions and has been mentor to many women throughout her career. Her initiatives within this field were instrumental in GBT being awarded “Employer of the Year” in Travel Weekly’s Women in Travel Awards 2016.
Jo has a Bachelor Business (Marketing) and an MBA from Melbourne Business School at the University of Melbourne.
